Eli Lilly released the newest weight loss drug, Zepbound, in December 2024. Zepbound trials indicate that it is outperforming the competition. Zepbound is an injectable prescription for weight loss. It comes in 5g, 10g, and 15g doses. In a 72-week trial of Zepbound with adults without diabetes, for those taking the 5g dose, the average weight loss was 34 lbs, for 10 mg it was 44 lbs., and for 15 mg it was 48 lbs.! According to Lilly, one in three who were on the 15g dose lost 58 lbs. The study included sensible eating and exercise.
There are side effects and some can be serious.
Common side effects include nausea, diarrhea, vomiting, constipation, and stomach pain. You may also experience indigestion and injection site reactions. Other common side effects are feeling tired, allergic reactions, unwanted belching, loss of hair, and heartburn. More serious side effects include stomach, gall bladder, and kidney problems, even kidney failure, Zepbound can also cause vision change (diabetics) pancreatitis, and low blood sugar.
Zepbound is not for everyone but it is a new option for those that need it.
