The Blood Type Diet, also called Eat Right For Your Type Diet, is a creation of  Dr. Peter J. D'Adamo, a naturopath.  The theory behind the blood type diet is that the foods that you eat react chemically with your blood type.

How Does It Work?

By following a diet specifically for your blood type, your body will digest foods more efficiently, you have more energy, you will lose weight, and prevent disease.

Each blood type has a specific diet.

If your Blood Type is O, Peter J. D'Adamo recommends a high-protein diet.   Your focus will be on lean meat, fish, poultry and vegetables.   Reduce your intake of grains, beans, and dairy. It is also  recommended that you take various supplements.  These supplements will help with the discomforts that Type O people tend to have.

If your Blood Type is A, Peter J. D'Adamo recommends a meat-free diet.  This means that your diet will be  based on fruits and vegetables,  legumes, beans, and whole grains.  Organic and fresh is recommended.  According to D'Adamo,  people with type A blood tend to have a sensitive immune system.

Eat Right For Your Type Diet/ Blood Type

If your Blood Type is B, Peter J. D'Adamo recommends that you avoid  wheat, corn, lentils, buckwheat, peanuts, sesame seeds, and tomatoes.   Chicken is considered to be a problem.   Green vegetables, certain meats, eggs, and low-fat dairy are recommended.

If your Blood Type is B, Peter J. D'Adamo recommends that you focus on foods like dairy, tofu, seafood,  nd green vegetables. He claims that  people with type AB blood tend to have low stomach acid.  You should avoid alcohol, caffeine, and smoked or cured meats.

Exercise is recommended and depends on blood type.  For type A's, yoga or tai chi is suggested.  For type O's, aerobic exercise such as biking or jogging for an hour a day is recommended.

Does it work?

Yes.  All of the diet variations lower caloric intake and by adding exercise, you should lose weight.

Eliminates package and processed foods.

Meal planning and prep will be involved.
Organic will be more expensive.
There is little room for personal choices.
There is no support.
In 2013, a major review came to the conclusion  that there is no evidence to support any benefits from a blood type diet,
Your food choices are limited.

I consider the Blood Type diet to be restrictive and difficult to stick with.  Since there is no evidence that it will be of benefit, I give it two thumbs down.

Thanks for reading, my friends, I wish you much success on your journey to lose weight.
