History of Zumba Dance:

Alberto Perez, better known as "Beto", is the founder of the Zumba Dance. Beto is a dancer and choreographer, who attended  Maria Sanford Brazilian Dance Academy.  In the early 1990's Beto invented Zumba Dance.  When Beto forgot to bring hos music to a fitness class that he was teaching in Colombia, he had to use a tape of  Latin music, which resulted in the birth of Zumba Dance.

Zumba Dance instructors must be licensed.

In order to get their license, they must attend the Zumba  workshop which
teaches basic skills, and then they have the option to specialize in one or more of five different forms of Zumba Dance.

The areas of specialization are:
  • Zumba... traditional Zumba classes including rhythms like merengue, foxtrot, salsa, cumbia, reggaeton, belly dance, waltz, flamenco, tango, samba.
  • Zumba Gold... is designed for adults and de-conditioned participants. It focuses on the anatomical, physiological and psychological needs specific this group.
  • Zumba Toning...blends body-sculpting techniques and specific Zumba moves into one class focusing on calorie-burning and strength-training. Instructors use weighted, maraca-like Zumba Toning Sticks to enhance rhythm and build strength.
  • Aqua Zumba—This workshop is an all ages class similar to water aerobics. It is designed to be safe, yet effective and challenging, integrating the Zumba formula and philosophy into traditional aqua fitness disciplines.
  • Zumbatomic...in September 2009, Zumba Fitness launched Zumbatomic, the first Zumba program for children. The original workout program is designed specifically for girls and boys ages 4–12 and incorporates urban dance styles like hip hop, reggaeton and pop with fundamental concepts such as coordination, discipline, confidence and teamwork.
  • Zumba in the Circuit combines Zumba dance and circuit training.
  • Zumba Gold Toning is for older participants.
  • Zumba Sentao is a chair workout.
  • In 2016, Zumba Strong or Strong by Zumba was launched.  It combines high intensity training with the science of synced Music Motivation.

Zumba Dance is also available in the convenience of your own home.

Watching at home, provides you with flexibility and freedom.  Unlike classes you do not have to be at class on certain days at certain times.

Zumba Dance is often promoted as "a party", you are invited to join the fun.

Face it, exercise is one of the best ways to help yourself to lose weight.  Zumba Dance happens to be quite effective at burning a high amount of calories.  Zumba is a high energy work out routine, but the amount of calories that you will burn depend on the intensity of your workout, your weight, your level of fitness, and your muscle composition.

The amount of calories burned will vary by individual, of course, but you can expect to burn an average of 500 to 800 calories per hour.  Since Zumba uses the principles of resistance training and interval training, you will increase your metabolism which will also mean more calories burned during the day.  Zumba will help you to lose weight fast.

Negatives:

The only negative is actually a positive.  Huh?  Zumba is a real workout.  Some forms of Zumba may prove to be too strenuous, but Zumba has tried to create programs to fit all ages and all levels of fitness.
