What is Hydroxycut?
Hydroxycut is a weight loss product, actually a large family of weight loss products. Most products contain a similar formulation but in a different form. These dietary supplements are manufactured in Canada by Iovate Health Sciences International. Some of their products are Xenadrine, MuscleTech®, Six Star Pro Nutrition®, Purely Inspired®, and Hydroxycut™.
How does it work?
Hydroxycut relies primarily on green coffee bean or anhydrous caffeine which will boost metabolism.
Does it work?
According to Hydroxycut, it does and Hydroxycut provides two studies as proof.
According to the manufacturer, take Hydroxycut as recommended along with exercise and diet and lose more weight than you would without Hydroxycut.
Our bodies build an immunity to caffeine which will gradually reduce many benefits.
14 of 16 Iovate products have been recalled and reformulated.
In 2009, the FDA issued a consumer warning on ALL Hydroxycut dietary supplements. Iovate voluntarily recalled its products. The FDA cited 23 cases of liver-related problems connected with the use of Hydroxycut. These cases included jaundice, brown urine, fatigue, abdominal pain, nausea, and vomiting.
Hydroxycut was recalled in 2009 and reformulated in 2010. Since the product line was reformulated in 2010, anything you read about Hydroxycut that is prior to 2010 relates to an old formulation and is no longer applicable.
I could not find any clinical proof that Hydroxycut works. Hydroxycut's studies were never published...not a good sign. Hydroxycut studies were done by Iovate...not a good sign. These studies are supposedly legit, so Hydroxycut should want them published. These studies, however, seem to be made in 2006!....remember everything was reformulated in 2010!...so my reasoning is that the studies are based on a previous formulation and are no longer applicable.
Side Effects and Dangers:
Elevated heart rate
A new free feature of Hydroxycut is the Hydroxycut App.
The app is a collection of weight loss tools to help you lose weight.
Hydroxycut continues to be an extremely popular weight loss supplement. Why? Many of us are looking for that 'Magic Pill' for weight loss and Hydroxycut claims to be the answer.
Many weight loss pills, powders, drops, supplements, etc. do not work. They simply take advantage of desperate people who need to lose weight.
The reason for my personal aversion to most weight loss pills and similar products is that the laws are such that most of these dietary supplements are safe until proven harmful. They can claim to work until proven that they do not. Unfortunately, this kind of system is backwards and leaves us all unprotected.
If you feel that you must try Hydroxycut, please consider your sensitivity to caffeine, which is a primary ingredient in many of their products.
Will this formulation benefit you? If so, How?
Caffeine...can boost metabolism, works best when accompanied by exercise.
Forskolin...no evidence that it helps with weight loss.
Robusta has more caffeine.
Per Wikipedia, "The robusta plant has a greater crop yield than that of arabica, and contains more caffeine – 2.7% compared to arabica's 1.5%."
L-theanine...seems to enhance mood and lower stress when used with caffeine.
Theobromine...a mild stimulant which can improve insulin sensitivity.
Yohimbe blocks specific receptors which inhibit fat loss.
Rauwolscine is the same molecule as yohimbe but in a different configuration, it also blocks alpha receptors.
What is my Hydroxycut rating?
To be fair to Hydroxycut, caffeine, when used with exercise helps your metabolism and boosts energy. Yohimbe and Rauwolscine when used with exercise help block alpha receptors which inhibit lipolysis which is essentially fat burning. If taking Hydroxycut means that you will be exercising and watching your diet, the exercise and diet changes are what is important. Based on the above example; caffeine, which is one of the main ingredients, and Yohimbe and Rauwolscine seem to need exercise as a catalyst. In other words, be sure to exercise to get the most value from Hudroxycut.
I still give Hydroxycut a thumbs down. This is due to its basing the results of a new formulation of products on pre-dated and unpublished trials of a different formulation.
As a final note, consider that this review has been written from a biased point of view, because it has. I am anti diet pills, so this review is made with an anti diet pill point of view.
Thank you for reading, my friends. I wish you success on your weight loss journey.
