You on a diet is not supposed to be a diet, rather a way of reducing your waist line. The book is written by Dr. Mehmet Oz and Dr. Michael Roizen. They teach you about your body and how it works. Then they teach how the food that you eat affects how your body works. As you move toward a healthy intake of food and add exercise, you will begin to realize improvements in your body, your energy, and your overall health. How Does It Work? There is no counting and your focus is not on the scale, rather on your waist size/ Your goal as a woman is 32 and a half inches and as a man, your goal is 35 inches. According to Drs. Oz and Roizen, studies show that people who cut their caloric intake by 400 calories per day, end up gaining the weight back. They also state that fasting actually shuts your metabolism down. The diet is based on cutting 100 calories per day. This amounts to about a loss of a pound per month. Best of all, this smaller reduction in calories is relatively easy to achieve and maintain for life. Step One is to take inventory of your food. There are five food ingredients that are banned and therefore need to be thrown out.
It is recommended that we read labels and keep the sugar content than four grams per serving and to keep the saturated fat to less than four grams per serving. You will soon discover that many so called healthy foods and fat free foods are high in sugar. An easy way to find foods that fit the 4 gram criteria is to stock up on fruit and vegetables. Emergency Snack Foods: When you are craving for a snack, foods that are crunchy and have some sweetness to them work best. Nuts, carrots, or apples are great snacks according to the Drs.. Other tricks that the book shares to curb your appetite is to add spice to your foods. Red pepper and cinnamon will reduce your appetite. Reducing your plate size will also help you to eat less. Dr. Oz says not to skip breakfast and the Drs. suggest that breakfast should not vary much as far as our food choices and variety. Also make your lunch options minimal. According to Dr. Roizen, our being over weight is a result of too many choices, so limit your choices for breakfast and lunch. Suggested breakfast treat! 1 scoop (1/3 cup) Soy protein (like Nature's Plus Spiru-Tein) Yields 2 servings at 136 calories each. Exercise: Exercise is a part of the plan. It is recommended that you exercise each day for no less than 30 minutes. Dr. Oz says walking is the foundation to prepare your body for other exercises and to build your stamina. He suggests that we set a goal of 10,000 steps per day. Once you get walking, then add three 20 minute segments of more physical exercise which will help you work up a sweat. We also should add stretching for health and safety. Yoga or the stretches that we learn in gym class should be fine. Level of Difficulty: This diet is easier than most. Meetings: There are no in person meeting. You can click here for our list of online weight loss forums and communities. Vegan or Vegetarian? You can adapt this diet to either.
