The Skinny Vegan Diet/ Skinny Bitch Vegan Diet
is, of course, a vegan diet that promises better health and weight loss.  The Skinny Vegan Diet was created by the authors of the 'Skinny Bitch' series, Rory Freedman and Kim Barnouin.  It does not specify how much weight that you will lose or how quickly, but if you will adopt the Skinny Bitch way of life, you will lose weight.

According to the authors, Skinny Bitch is a "No-Nonsense, Tough-Love Guide for Savvy Girls Who Want to Stop Eating Crap and Start Looking Fabulous”

How does it work?

The diet is a low calorie diet.  You will not be eating any animal products, nor will you be having processed foods or fast foods.  The diet is based on fruits and vegetables and soy.  In addition to better health and weight loss, the diet also claims that you will have more energy.  The diet discourages snacks.  You want to be famished before you eat.

Vegans usually lose more weight and have a lower BMI than meat eaters.

FYI:

The diet is adamant and graphic about not eating meat and is filled with colorful language.  The 'diet' is actually based on the passion that both of its authors have for animal rights.  In addition, the authors feel that animal products are bad for our bodies.

As with any vegan diet, you need to be sure that your intake of vitamin D, B12, Iron, Zinc, Calcium and protein are adequate.  Tofu is a good source of protein, and bok choy and fortified soy milk are good non dairy sources of calcium

The diet also promotes fasting and cleansing.  Most experts are against fasts and cleanses.

Exercise:

The diet suggests 20 minutes daily of your choice of exercise for five days per week.  Yoga is strongly recommended.

Cost:

Your food cost should not change.  The higher cost of organic should be offset by not having the high cost of meat.

Conclusion:

Vegan is possibly one of the best diets.  The benefits are usually better health and an age defying appearance.  The nutritional shortcomings, however, mean that you, the dieter, needs to gain knowledge about nutrition before embarking on this kind of diet.  In addition, the level of difficulty is high.

I feel that a well balanced vegan diet may be the fountain of youth and a ticket to long term wellness, but a vegan diet will only work for a very few.  If you feel you are one of those few, then consider adding this diet to your list of options.  For the vast majority of us, I believe this diet is not for you.

I thank you for reading, my friends, and wish you success on your weight loss journey.

Kind regards,

How your body responds to a vegan diet

Are Vegan Diets Good or Bad?

The answer to this question, often depends on who you talk to.  There are certainly benefits to a vegan diet such as better health and ageless skin.

There are also negatives!

Long tern veganism can create problems.  These problems are avoidable.  I am sharing some of these negatives so that you are aware of them and can take steps to prevent them.

How to Prevent Deficiencies on a Vegan Diet

Some of the problems that long term vegans face are depression, mood swings, hormonal imbalances, thyroid imbalances, weight issues, no energy, lack of mental concentration—brain fog, vision problems, anemia, mental and growth retardation, scurvy, rickets and many other health issues

You should be able to avoid all the above problems with proper supplementation.

Since the Skinny Vegan Diet includes lots of soy products, be sure that your soy is fermented.  Unfermented soy may cause pancreatic disorders, infertility, hypothyroidism, auto-immune disease, thyroid cancer and a host of other brain and nervous system disorders.  Some experts feel that soy (fermented or unfermented) is not a healthy food.

Some negative soy testimonies complain of forgetfulness, goiter, thyroid problems, high cholesterol, and other ailments that soy was supposed to cause.

Any health change should be accompanied by a visit to your doctor, before making a final decision.  A vegan diet is usually a rather drastic change and leaves you open for nutritional deficiencies, so see your doctor before making your decision.
