What Is The Pizza Diet?

Is the Pizza Diet a real diet?  Yes.  It was created by Pasquale Cozzolino.  The Pizza Diet is based around the Mediterranean lifestyle or diet and, of course, it includes pizza.  Eating pizza and still losing weight has made the pizza diet very popular, in fact, it is in the top ten most searched for diets per Google.

The diet focuses on eating fresh vegetables, fruits, fish, and whole grains and using healthy fats like olive oil and avocado instead of saturated fats. The diet includes pizza on a daily basis.  Chef Cozzolino claims to have lost 114 pounds with the Pizza Diet over a 9 month period.

His pizza is based on a Neapolitan recipe using the finest ingredients. He claims his secret is in the crust.   He makes the crust from "00Flour", a finely milled Italian flour which is  essential to traditional Neapolitan pizza, he adds water, sea salt and a natural leavening agent He ferments the dough for 36 hours.  Because of the long fermenting process, the yeast removes much of the sugar and the result is a healthier crust that is easier to digest and makes you feel full.

Sample Meal Plan for a day:

Breakfast;  Whole grain cereal with low fat milk top with fresh fruit. almond milk, juice and coffee.
Lunch:  Pizza, usually Neapolitan style with fruit, salad, and sometimes red wine.
Dinner:  Typically a smaller meal such as seafood with a side of beans and perhaps another glass of wine.
Snacks: Fruit.

Chef Cozzolino did cut sweets and soda from his diet.  By eating 'diet pizza', his whole pie comes in around 550 calories.  By  having pizza nearly every day, he says that it has helped him to stick with his diet.

A reformed Oreo lover, Chef Cozzolino had steadily gained weight.  When he hit 370 pounds, his doctor warned him that a heart attack was imminent unless he lost weight.  The result was his Pizza Diet.

Conclusion:

If you think that pizza is what it takes for you to lose weight and stick to your weight loss plan, then the Pizza Diet may be right for you.  I give the Pizza diet a thumbs up, if you like pizza, you should consider adding it to your list of diet options.

FYI:  Since the Pizza Diet is based on the Mediterranean Diet, you may also want to look at the Mediterranean Diet as well.

Healthy Pizza Tips:

If you are interested in the Pizza Diet allow me to share some Healthy Pizza Tips:

  1. Make your own pies and make the crust similar to Chef C's.
  2. If you eat pizza out, get THIN crust.  If available get whole grain thin crust.
  3. Avoid personal size pizza...too many calories and fat grams.
  4. Blot.  Blot excess oil, you are removing unneeded calories.
  5. Avoid salty meat toppings.
  6. If you want meat, go with chicken, ham or anchovies.
  7. Opt for vegetable topping
  8. Avoid eggplant when eating pizza out, it is often breaded and fried.
  9. Order slices, not pies.  You will stop when you are satisfied instead of over indulging.
  10. Add heat.  Adding pepper and spice has been found to reduce your overall consumption by about 200 calories.
  11. Opt for red pizza.  Tomatoes are lycopene rich.
  12. Try flourless pizza crust at home.  (Portobello mushrooms, cauliflower, and Quinoa are just a few options).
Added Note:  All pizza diets (eating pizza for each meal) have been touted as a way to lose weight successfully.  The all pizza diet claims are probably true, but an all pizza diet is NOT going to be sustainable for most people and is probably not a 'balanced' diet.

Thank you for reading, my friends, I wish you success on your weight loss journey.
