The Martha's Vineyard Detox Diet promises that you will lose 21 pounds in 21 days. At the end of the 21 days, you will also enjoy smoother, clearer skin, much more energy, and stronger hair and nails. In addition, the diet claims that you will have more focus and better health.
Roni DeLuz, a naturopathic doctor, is the author of '21 Pounds in 21 Days, The Martha's Vineyard Diet Detox. Her diet includes a 21 day plan of juices, supplements, and enemas. The average person should lose about 24 pounds, according to DeLuz.

How does It Work?
For 21 days, you will be on a liquid diet. You will be drinking fresh juices and vegetable soups every two hours. DeLuz says that we all have a slimy sludgy build up in our colons. This build up is up to 25 pounds of toxic material. To remove it, she offers her book and a 21 day detox kit and 9 day maintenance package.
Her plan includes three principles.
Rest: no chewing and no working out
Reduce: weight loss
Rebuild: Your body will rebuild after the 21 days.
DeLuz suggests a 21 day detox once a year and a seven day cleanse every 3 months. She says it will improve metabolism and boost energy. Her plan calls for a weekly organic coffee enema with regular water enemas on other days.

What can you eat?
Water
Herbal Tea
Juices made from organic vegetables and fruits
Soups that you will prepare
Powdered antioxidant berry and green drinks that are in the 21 day kit.
Each day, you can expect to drink about 32+ ounces of herbal tea, 40+ ounces of water, 32 ounces of antioxidant berry drink, vegetable juice, or green drink made from vegetables, and about 16 ounces of vegetable based soups.
What you cannot eat.
You are not allowed any foods that need to be chewed, meat, cow's milk, processed foods, salt, coffee (except in the enema), or alcohol.
Cost: Your kit and your book, your grocery bill should not change much.
Cooking and food prep: If you do not have time, DeLuz has supplement powders that you can use to make a shake.

“I would not encourage people to go on this,” says clinical dietitian Susan Kasik-Miller, MS, RD, of Sacred Heart Hospital in Eau Claire, Wisc. Since this diet is highly difficult and short term, I consider it to have two major strikes against it. When you add the facts that most of your weight loss is not fat, instead it is water and muscle and slimy sludge and that you are very likely to gain all the lost weight back, I give this diet a thumbs down and do not recommend that you add it to your list of weight loss options.

About 30 years ago, I and my family were in a serious flash flood. A dam broke from rainfall of over 6"in a matter of hours. The water rose about 4 feet ABOVE the height of the ceiling of our apartment.
