What is the High School Reunion Diet?

The High School Reunion Diet was created by David Colbert, MD with Terry Reed.   The diet says that you will lose 20 years in 30 days.  You will regain your youth, your health, and your body.   The diet also promises luminous and glowing skin, not with drugs or surgery, with food.

Dr. Colbert says the diet was inspired by his patients who wanted cosmetic surgery or Botox before attending a school reunion.

The diet is based on 5 behavioral shifts regarding food.

  1. No skipping meals.  In fact, you will have three meals and some in between snacks.
  2. Locally grown and organic.  Whether it is the Farmer's Market or fresh food aisle, the emphasis is on locally grown, fresh, organic foods.
  3. Vegetables and more vegetables.  Vegetables on a 9" plate should take up most of the space.  Meat portions need to be reduce to 4-6 oz.
  4. Stick to the classics.  Rather than widen your menu with new foods, stay with the regulars.  Salmon, for example, can be eaten up to 4 times a week.
  5. Use spice to spice up your diet.  Change your preparation, not the foods.

What can you eat?

  • Vegetables: The more veggies, the better. Veggies are high in nutrients and low in calories, so they will make up most of your diet for meals, also great for snacks.
  • Fruit:Eat whole fruits, not fruit juice.
  • Beans, legumes, nuts, and seeds:  A good source of protein and high in fiber.
  • Fish, poultry, lean meat:  Reduce the portion size by making meat a side dish to your vegetables.
  • Dairy: Eat plain yogurt rather than flavored to avoid extra sugar. Low-fat cheeses and yogurts are allowed.
  • Whole grains: This includes 100% whole wheat, barley, brown rice, and steel-cut oatmeal.
  • Water is your main drink.
Food to avoid:

Processed Foods
Pre-packaged foods
Soda
Energy drinks
Lemonade
Iced Tea
Beer
Hard Liquor (red wine is allowed in moderation)

Conclusion

The High School Reunion Diet is a wonderful diet and should help you to lose weight.  It does not include an exercise plan, and is only meant to be a 30 day diet which is not a good approach to weight loss.  Short term diets do you more harm, both physically and mentally, than good.  You not only gain back the weight and more, you train your brain and body that weight loss is short term and healthy weight loss is long term.  I, therefore, give this great diet, a thumbs down.

Thank you for reading, my friends.
I wish you success on your weight loss journey.
