HGH and Weight Loss

HGH stands for Human Growth Hormone also referred to as Growth Hormone.  You can take HGH in pills, powder, drops, or by injection.

What is HGH?

HGH is a hormone.  While we are young and growing, HGH is produced by our pituitary gland.  Adolescent secretion of HGH is about 700 μg/day, adult secretion of H GH is about 400 μg/day.

How Does HGH Work?

HGH or GH is considered to be anabolic which means building up.    GH or Growth Hormone is mostly known for its effect on increasing one's height during the growth years.  A major target for GH is the liver

Other effects that GH is believed to have::

Increases calcium retention which strengthens bone
Increases muscle mass through sarcomere hypertrophy
Promotes lipolysis (fat burning)
Increases protein synthesis
Stimulates growth of internal organs, other than the brain
Affects homeostasis
Reduces the liver's uptake of glucose
Promotes gluconeogenesis in the liver
Improves function of pancreatic islets
Strengthens the immune system
Increases deiodination of T4 to T3.

Does HGH help with weight loss?

Of the above effects of HGH, the one that would best relate to weight loss is that HGH promotes fat burning.  In a small study https://www.ncbi.nlm.nih.gov/pubmed/10352397 of 24 obese people, 22 women and 2 men, "GH treatment caused a 1.6-fold increase in the fraction of body weight lost as fat and a greater loss of visceral fat area than placebo treatment (35.3 vs. 28.5%, p < 0.05)."

The problem is that no other studies since, have been able to show that HGH has any weight loss benefit.  In fact, the New England Journal of Medicine took a most unusual step regarding this study and that was to  denounce the original study.

What this means is that the HGH claims that you read (by sites that want you to buy their products) are based on a study that has since been publicly declared wrong by the New England Journal of Medicine.

Nicholas Tritos, MD, who co-authored an analysis evaluating the effectiveness of HGH for weight loss in obese people says,  "Our results showed small improvements in body composition, a small reduction in body fat and increase in muscle mass, but on balance, weight did not change," he says. "More notable changes are seen when an individual is deficient in growth hormone from true pituitary disease."

Other studies have concluded that HGH is NOT effective for losing weight.

In addition, the American Association of Clinical Endocrinologists has warned against the use of HGH for obese patients.

HGH without a prescription is ILLEGAL!
apothecary
HGH supplements are composed of ingredients that are intended to help the body produce more Growth Hormone.    These products do not actually contain any HGH.

HGH is only available as a prescription.  According to Dr. Nicholas Tritos, the only prescription HGH that is effective is injection, "HGH is a protein that will get broken down in the stomach unless it is injected,"

Positives:

HGH has no weight loss benefits.

Negatives:

Swelling in the arms and legs
Muscle pain
Carpel tunnel syndrome
Insulin resistance
High cholesterol levels
Tingling of the skin
Increased risk of diabetes
Can contribute to the growth of cancerous tumors
The older you are the more profound the symptoms

Conclusion:

According to science and research, HGH does NOT promote weight loss.  Therefore, using HGH or products that stimulate your body production of HGH is a waste of your time and money.  I give HGH for weight loss two thumbs down and recommend that you avoid it.

Thank you for reading, my friends, I wish you much success on your weight loss journey.

Kind regards,

HGH to reverse aging or build muscle:

Synthetic HGH was developed and approved by the FDA in 1985.  It has been approved to be used to treat shortness in stature in children and for other medical maladies such as:

  • Turner's syndrome, which is a genetic disorder affecting girl's development
  • Prader-Willi syndrome, a rare genetic ailment resulting in poor muscle tone, low levels of sex hormones, and constant  hunger
  • Chronic kidney disease
  • HGH deficiency or insufficiency
  • Short bowel syndrome
  • Muscle-wasting  associated with HIV/AIDS

continued....

Although HGH has been used to build muscle and reverse aging, no scientific evidence or studies support the conclusion that HGH will help build muscle or reverse aging.  In fact, the older the patients, the more pronounced the side effects seem to be.

HGH's effects on building muscle and anti-aging are yet unproven.

The HGH  risks are too high considering the reward is probably a false promise.
