Cinnamon is more than just a flavorful spice!
Effects on the brain:
Studies have shown that chewing or smelling cinnamon resulted in increased memory and aided in the ability to be able to more quickly process information. Because cinnamon is able to increase one's cognitive powers, scientists are conducting studies to determine whether or not cinnamon may be able to improve mental skills in the elderly.
Effects on diabetes:
Scientists at Maryland USDA were conducting tests to determine the effects of various foods on blood sugar levels.
One of the foods that they tested was apple pie. The results of the test were a surprise. The apple pie lowered blood sugar levels rather than raised them. The real hero was not the apple pie...it was, of course, the cinnamon, that flavored the pie.
Further study was done on a test group of 60 in Pakistan. These patients were being treated for type 2 diabetes and had been receiving anti-diabetic drugs for two years or more to increase insulin output. None of them were taking insulin.
The group received from one fourth teaspoon to less than 2 teaspoons of cinnamon per day for 40 days.
The cinnamon lowered their blood sugar levels, increased their natural output of insulin, and lowered blood cholesterol.
After stopping the cinnamon treatment for 20 days, patients still continued to see these positive effects.
Blood cholesterol levels were actually reduced from 10 to 26%. The LDL (bad) cholesterol was reduced and yet the HDL (good) cholesterol was not affected. By lowering blood sugar levels and improving blood cholesterol ratios, cinnamon may actually prevent diabetes from worsening and may even help reverse pre-diabetes.
This means that those who suffer from insulin resistance or pre-diabetes or "Metabolic Syndrome" may find that cinnamon is a "Miracle Food"!

Cinnamon's Effects on Weight Loss:
Cinnamon helps you to lose weight in several ways.
Cinnamon has the ability to cleanse your stomach and intestines, thus reducing bacteria and fungi. After this cleansing, nutrients are better absorbed and processed which reduces bloating and promotes weight loss as well as reduce the development of fat.
Lowering blood sugar levels and combating insulin resistance is thought to help to slow the storage of fat, especially in the abdominal area, where fat storage by your body is most effective.
NOTE: Cinnamon alone is not likely to make you slim. You may, however, want to consider adding cinnamon to your diet to help bolster your weight loss efforts.
Caution: If you have diabetes, cholesterol problems, diabetes 2, and/or are taking any type of diabetes medication, consult with your doctor before adding cinnamon to your diet. Before making any health or weight loss decisions, always consult with your health professional.
Easy ways to add cinnamon to your diet:
How can you use this remarkable food?
- You can add cinnamon to your diet by using it as supplement.
- You can also add it by using it in your foods.
- You can also use it in a honey and cinnamon combination, (cinnamon and honey diet).
|
Cinnamon can be taken in supplemental form.
Choose a quality supplement and take as directed.
Adding cinnamon to your diet will probably result
in pleasant surprise.
Cinnamon comes in stick or ground form. Try
adding a stick of cinnamon while steeping your
herbal tea...you will like the added flavor. In ground
form, you can sprinkle cinnamon on your cereal, your
toast, your coffee, cocoa, cappuccino, and even your
fruit juice.
Cinnamon goes great in apple pie or other apple or
most baked fruit dishes. Cinnamon also goes well
with unsweetened apple sauce (add about a half
teaspoon) and can also be added to butter or cream
cheese.
Cinnamon tastes and smells good, so do not be afraid
to use it, do not be afraid to experiment...such as trying
it in soups and on cooked meats and even some
sandwiches.

Using cinnamon in a cinnamon and honey diet is another way to enjoy the medicinal benefits of cinnamon. The recipe is easy...mix one teaspoon of honey and one half teaspoon of ground cinnamon and boil in one cup of water. after boiling, filter the mixture into two half cup portions. Take one portion before breakfast and one portion about one half hour before bed. Some suggest adding raw honey after boiling to better retain nutrients and this the benefits. This mixture is believed to stop the body from accumulating fat. Honey is an antioxidant so it also has other benefits. Cinnamon is supposed to help your body to be better able to process foods and give your body a better chance to break t down in a way that does not produce fat.
Other reported benefits of cinnamon and honey are as a treatment for:
Arthritis...topically...one part honey and two parts water and one teaspoon cinnamon in a paste and rub this into the arthritic area to reduce pain. Orally, mix one tablespoon cinnamon ground and one half teaspoon honey and take before breakfast to reduce pain and increase flexibility.
Bladder Infection...orally, one teaspoon of honey and two tablespoons of cinnamon ground are supposed to kill the germs causing the bladder infection.
Tooth ache...apply a mixture of one teaspoon ground cinnamon and five teaspoons of honey three times per day until pain is gone.
Hair growth...apply a paste of one teaspoon ground cinnamon, one tablespoon of honey, in warm olive oil. Leave on scalp for 15 minutes before showering.
Heart Disease...a paste of ground cinnamon and honey on bread, eaten regularly for breakfast may help cure or reduce the onset of heart disease. This simple act lessens the cholesterol, helping to avoid a heart attack. Also, care facilities across the U.S. have discovered that a diet including honey and cinnamon helps strengthen patient's arteries and veins.

More Uses...fatigue, bad breath, skin infections, hearing loss, complications with your immune system, cancer, upset stomach, longevity, influenza, infertility, gas, upset stomach, and indigestion are all supposed to benefit from a mixture of cinnamon and honey.
In Conclusion:
"if it sounds too good to be true, then it probably is".
Cinnamon and the "cinnamon and honey diet" seem to have some wonderful benefits and I hope that are all true. For now, studies have shown that cinnamon certainly has some fantastic properties that can help you in a number of ways and residential care facilities have confirmed some of the advantages of a cinnamon and honey diet. There are however no major clinical studies or research programs that have been made to solidify these claims. The evidence presented above, does seem to make for a strong case in favor of considering cinnamon or a cinnamon and honey diet.
My Rating:
Cinnamon is a natural food with remarkable qualities and benefits. Weight loss is just one of many reasons to include cinnamon in your diet. I give cinnamon and the cinnamon and honey diet, two thumbs up.
Thank you for reading, my friend, I wish you success on your weight loss journey.
Kindest Regards,
George Pierce
