The Big Breakfast Diet
by Daniela Jakubowicz, MD, focuses on timing. When you eat matters, according to the Big Breakfast Diet.
How Does It Work?
The idea and appeal behind the BB Diet is that you can have a huge breakfast and still lose weight. You can have all the foods you love or crave with this diet, as long as you eat them before 9:00 AM.
There are some limitations.
For your breakfast, you can have 7 servings of protein, two servings of carbs and fats, and one sweet. A sweet for breakfast could be a piece of cake, candy, or a doughnut.
For lunch and dinner, you are not allowed to have carbs or sweets. Proteins and fruits and vegetables are reduced as well. Sugar free drinks, bouillon and gum are allowed at any time during the day.
Alcohol is not allowed the first month. After that, alcohol is allowed on occasion and low sugar alcohol is recommended.
Exercise can be light, in that you should move your body at least 20 minutes per day.
Does It Work?
Yes. The Big Breakfast Diet is based on your body's natural rhythms. By eating a complete breakfast, you speed up your metabolism. This means that you will burn more calories all day long and more fat, A large breakfast also helps to satisfy your hunger all day long. In addition it will boost energy; and eliminate your desire for sweets. A big breakfast also reduces your risk of health problems such as type 2 diabetes and heart disease.
The Breakfast Diet includes a 28 day menu plan for each meal along with snacks.
Your Big Breakfast includes 7 servings of protein (2 of the 7 servings are dairy), 2 servings of carbs, 2 servings of fat, and you are allowed one sweet. A sweet in the morning will eliminate cravings for sweets later in the day.
Lunch includes 3 servings of protein, 3 servings of low-calorie vegetables, 2 servings of starchy or sweeter vegetables, and 1 serving of fruit.
Dinner is 0-3 servings of protein, an unlimited amount of low-calorie vegetables, 2 servings starchy or sweeter vegetables, and 2 servings of fruit.
Positives:
A large breakfast curbs your appetite during the day.
Well balanced.
Healthy foods.
Flexible.
Lowers blood sugar levels during the day.
Can prevent diabetes, high blood pressure, and heart disease.
May lower cholesterol.
You can eat out (just watch your portion size).
You can eat a wide range of foods.
Because of the timing, the BB Diet outperforms similar calorie diets.
Negatives:
Eating your largest meal first and then less at lunch and even less at dinner may be a difficult adjustment for some.
Other than the 28 day diet, you are on your own.
No support.
Should you try this diet?
Conclusion:
There are so many positives about the Big Breakfast Diet, that I feel that it is worthy of consideration. My biggest concern is that you only have a 28 day meal plan and no other support. This makes me feel that this diet may let you down over the long haul. Since the BB Diet does work and provides healthy benefits, I give it a reluctant thumbs up.
Thank you for reading, my friends. I wish you much success on your weight loss journey.
Kindest Regards,

BEFORE 9 AM!
You are allowed one sweet with breakfast and that sweet can be candy!
Something that I suggest that you look for in a diet is a 'cheat' mechanism. Being able to eat anything you want (within the diet guidelines) before 9AM, is a significant plus.
Most of us are probably going to miss some kind of sweet such as cake or candy or ice cream or a doughnut. We might miss it so much that it could be our undoing. Not on the Big Breakfast Diet!

Turn the clock back to when most people were farmers and you will find that the big meal of the day was breakfast. Of course, you might have already put in a few hours of hard work before breakfast, but it was typically the hardiest meal of the day.
Timing of our eating does matter, and having that early sweet will stave off sweet cravings later in the day.
