Hypertension/ High Blood Pressure Guidelines change!

The Rules are changing regarding high blood pressure, also know as hypertension.   Heart experts in the U.S. have changed the criteria for high blood pressure. The new guidelines by the American Heart Association and the American College of Cardiology, will increase the number of adults in the US with hypertension by more than 30 million!

Before the new guidelines, people with blood pressure readings of 140/90 or greater were diagnosed with hypertension. People with high blood pressure/ hypertension face a much higher risk for stroke and/or heart attack.

The new threshold for hypertension has been lowered to 130/80. 

Few health risk factors are as important as high blood pressure. This is the reason why it is one of the core vital signs regularly monitored by doctors.

Good News!

Diet and exercise or drugs?

How you treat hypertension is your decision.  Some of the side effects of a better diet and exrecise are better health and longer life. Drig side effects are typically undesirable.
